G&C music to appear in the Norwegian National Ballet

The Norwegian National Ballet has requested a George&caplin song to accompany a dance for the production of “the Ice Palace” in Oslo! (based on Tarjei Vesaas’ novel “Isslottet”) We are overwhelmed. This is truly beyond anything Jason and I had in mind when we started G&C back in 01’.

"George and Caplin have produced some of the most hauntingly beautiful music I’ve heard since Sigur Rós’ Straumnes.
‘Franco Cleef Wyoming Reconstruction’ sounds a lot like Kasabian’s ‘U Boat’ that floats about in the background of the noise.
There are times that the album sounds like it was made to communicate with dolphins or whales, some of the tracks just sound like blurry sonar, tempting sea creatures.
‘Sleep Deep’ opens with tinny drums and some vapid bass. This is probably the most ‘conventional’ song on the album, it seems structured in a linear way, anchored by deep brooding vocals.
‘Brown Blazer’ sounds like it could burst into something so much more and starts to feel very trancey throughout. And ‘Two’ is an acoustic wonder, twinned with big beats and harmonicas that create a great relationship throughout the track.
At times, George and Caplin can sound like the Secret Machines, very spacey and a fantastic use of harmonies to combat the westernised style of guitar.
‘Pablo and Julia’ is truly terrifying, reminiscent of something David Lynch would use, slow and bruising, the scratch of a record player in the background making it all the more eerie." By Ross Dunn • Nov 28th, 2010

"The first disc of this double album is enchanted and imagistic, evoking memories of dust flickering in the air like warm snow as shafts of light pour through the windowpanes."
"I enjoy it when the singing is showcased, especially on "Sleep Deep," whose propulsive bass line recalls favorite moments from groups like Wire or Gang of Four. The instrumental songs which dominate the album investigate the use of keyboards as if they were banjos, the amplified sonority of slide guitars, random snippets of AM truck stop radio, all drizzled with syrupy synthesizer sweetness akin to cherry pie had at a late night diner."

"The second disc, "Requiem For An Encyclopedia," recalls the infinite libraries and labyrinths of Jorge Luis Borges."
"Composed of short loops ranging from 36 seconds to just under two minutes it is best left to play on shuffle for hours on end. Truly soothing and vibrant it sweeps from low end to high end with lush and lulling simplicity. And it is as pleasant to listen to as a humming bird is to watch."

Bootgazing Vaquero Manifesto

I. All actions must produce the tendency to ponder one’s boots thoughtfully. (or Converse occasionally.)

II. No reins before any reins. Genre limitations are creative limitations.

III. Consider the space it represents, tumbleweeds of any kind should be free within it.

IV. Aspire to encompass the ideals of one or more of the following.

a. Nudie Suits

b. Space Suits

c. Adobe Coats

d. Road Trips

e. Android Federales

f. The American West

g. Cowboy Boots

V. Process before product but not before road trips. Highways are a vaquero’s driveway.

VI. Presets are stagnant urban products; manipulation is a rural survival process.

VII. Keyboards are kin to banjos, and slide guitars are genetically the same as samplers.

VIII. Less vaqueros are often more vaqueros.

IX. Mistakes are cosmic fortunes.

X. All creations would be at home on an AM radio in a pick-up truck driven by Brian Eno on the way to an open ranch or at a rodeo held by Gram Parsons.

XI. No good horse thieves stare and share.

XII. Mexican standoffs are best won by refurbishing culture, recognizing the advantages of working within a limited range of possibilities, and reconciling with repetition.
